St Mary's is a massive Grade I building whose earliest surviving features date from around 1180, but which certainly has a deeper history. A chapel of All Saints stood on this site in 1115, and it is believed that the present N and S arcades rest on foundations belonging to an earlier, probably Saxon building.
Its size is such that it is classified as one of England's 300 Major Parish Churches, and within the diocese of Lincoln it is designated a Key Mission Church , seeking to resource churches in the surrounding area.
The five Low Villages are communities of between 100 and 800 to the east of the River Ancholme. Unusually, agriculture still plays a significant and visible role here.
Regular Sunday worship takes place in all five Churches, along with the round of weddings, Christenings and funerals, and special events at major times of year, such as Christmas.
Saxby possesses a unique Amphitheatre which can be used for concerts, events and services.
