Wedding leaflets for download

Here are some forms and leaflets which will help with arranging your Day, and may offer you some ideas and answer a few questions. Though they often mention St Mary's most of the information holds good for the other Churches in our group (and for most parish Churches in England for that matter).

  • Getting married in the Parish Church is a guide to how it all hangs together and some suggestions on making the day less stressful
  • 'What if we don't live here?' is a guide for anyone who doesn't live in the parish. but would like to marry in one of our parish churches
  • 'Tying the knot without breaking the bank' offers some suggestions on making the day less eye-wateringly expensive without making it any the less memorable.
  • The Marriage Application Form (sometimes called the 'Banns' form) provides us with the details we will need on the day for completing the Wedding Document. It also has space for you to say if you'd like the organ playing, or the bells ringing (where that's possible).
  • The Marriage Blessing application is a form for those of you who would like to arrange a blessing of your marriage, or a Renewal of Vows.
  • The 'Banns form - wedding out of group' is the one to use if you're not getting married in one of the group's parishes, but one, or both of you live there. You'll need to have the Banns read in your home parishes and we'll provide you with the certificate you need to show whovever is taking your wedding at the Church where you're marrying.

Below these you'll find a bit more information about the nuts and bolts of the service, and downloadable outlines of a typical wedding , which will help you start to put your service together and - with a bit of luck - take some of the stress out of things.

To help with planning your service...

One or two bits and pieces which may help you plan how the service itself runs.

We'll add to this as time goes on with information about rehearsals (what they do and don't do), odd thoughts about little details like The Bridesmaid Question (British way is for them to follow you in, since their job is to attend to your dress and so on, American way is for them to go in first - very ornamental but not what they're there for!), guidance about photographs (as long as they don't get between you two and the Vicar there's not much we're not OK with them doing) - you get the picture. In England you're not allowed to write your own vows for any legal wedding ceremony, even a venue, though there's more freedom in a blessing or thanksgiving service.

The priest who takes your wedding will help you in sorting it all out, but you may find it useful to have an idea of how it all hangs together. If you're having orders of service printed, the essential bits are in the 'Order of Wedding Service' downloads.
